Currently, it is one of the hottest days of the year so far in the UK. This means, for us girls anyway, our makeup is just sweating off. The heavy, full makeup I’m used to wearing – aka the gigantic flicks, the individual false eyelashes, and the dark, dark lipstick – are a no go. So, instead, I thought I’d put a little something together; a list of Summer makeup essentials if you will. If you’re anything like me, you want to avoid spending ages doing your makeup when it’s so hot and sticky, but also want to avoid showing off your blemishes or uneven skin tone. [*Of course, there is nothing wrong with blemishes, acne scarring or uneven skin tone; it is just my preference to cover them*]
Below are a few items I use during the hot period, which luckily in the UK isn’t very long. Note: I typically do not use them all at once, but just a couple, depending on how I feel on the day.
Firstly, I want to focus on the face.
I hate the idea of applying liquid foundation when it is so hot. It always feels uncomfortable and slippery and it tends to darken, so by the end of the day your face is completely at odds with your neckline. Because of this, I tend to only cover my blemishes and then apply pressed powder to keep it in place. The concealer I use is by LA Pro Girl [*Pictured further down this article*], and the pressed powder is an affordable drug store one by Rimmel.
When I tie my hair up – something I only really do during the Summer time or at work – I also like to use either Seventeen’s Shimmer Brick or their blush [*called The Cheek Of It*]. It makes my face feel more defined when I’m out and about, and gives it that shimmery, summery feel. Another product which also gives me this feel is the Heng Fang Liquid Highlighter, as its very subtle [*unlike most brands which promote heavy highlight for nights out*].
Seventeen Instant Glow Shimmer Brick: £4.99
Heng Fang Moisture and Shine Liquid Highlighter: £2.50

For the eyes, I normally use a variety of colours and blend them out, but with Summer I just really don’t have the energy for it. Most of the time, I won’t bother applying eye
shadow at all, but recently I was gifted a No7 Perfect Eye Shadow, which feels weightless and is incredibly easy to blend out. It also goes nicely with a bit of liquid eyeliner.
As I don’t get my eyebrows done professionally, I always use an eyebrow pencil to give them shape. Without this, they look like giant, messy caterpillars. The Rimmel Eyebrow Pencil, pictured underneath, normally does the trick. However, I can admit when you’re sweaty and dabbing your face it can get a little messy if you aren’t gentle enough. Be warned, especially if you want to wear a bit of makeup to the gym.
Finally, for this section, I wanted to share this Natural Collection Mascara. It’s nothing fancy [*I love simplistic things*], and is very affordable. Whether you use an eyelash curler or not, this mascara definitely still defines your eyes, and of course it comes in shades other than black if you want to maintain your light brown or fair eyelashes.
Rimmel Glam’Eyes Liquid Eyeliner: £5.29
Rimmel Eyebrow Pencil in 001: £2.99
Natural Collection Mascara: £1.99
No7 Stay Perfect Eye shadow: £7.00 [*Note: It was a gift – that is way too much for a singular eye Shadow colour*]
As mentioned above, this is what the LA Pro Girl Concealer looks like. It is probably the best concealer I’ve ever used, and is well worth the money if you wish to hide acne, scarring, or reddish tones. They come in many, many, many colours, even green and red to neutralise your skin. I must admit, however, it can feel a little weighty on your face sometimes.
During Summer, my love for lipstick and liners doesn’t really change. I never feel comfortable not wearing one – I’m not sure why. I mainly stick to pinks and peachy colours, but this reddy, paprika colour is nice. The brightness of this liner is really pretty in the sunshine, but also makes you feel like you aren’t really overdoing it, makeup wise.

LA Pro Girl Concealer in GC969 Porcelain: £2.50
As a long lost Christmas gift, I never really had the chance to try this booster before this week, but it certainly makes a difference, especially on hair that has been left unwashed for a few days. Even if you tie your hair up, applying this beforehand can achieve that thick hair look you may want.
John Frieda Blow Dry Lotion Root Booster: £7.00
Finally, a handy and small antiperspirant is really essential when you’re off on a Summer adventure, hiking, exercising, etc.
I also wanted to take this time to share a new perfume, gifted to me by my boyfriend recently, which is honestly delightful. The lovely smell lasts throughout the day. It is currently on sale [*up to 50% off*] in shops such as House of Fraser, and also online.
Sure Compressed Antiperspirant: £2.00
Roberto Cavalli Nero Assoluto: reduced to £31.00
